What is Polarity?
Polarity therapy is a system of treatment intended to restore a balanced distribution of the body's energy, and incorporating manipulation, exercise and dietary restrictions. Dr. Randolph Stone was the founder of polarity therapy. He was an osteopath who studied Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese medicine and spent about 60 years studying the human energy field and how things like diet, movement, touch, sound, relationships and life experience have an effect on our bodies. Our body contains specific energetic patterns, currents and elements vital to our health and well-being. When any of these are out of balance, energy becomes blocked resulting in states of disease or decreased states of health, pain or tension. With Polarity, it is believed that energy comes before form and works on the principle of resonance, like attracts like. By removing obstructions in your energetic fields, polarity can restore vital life force energy, raise your vibration and reconnect the body, mind, soul and spirit.
The five elements are closely related to specific organs, tissue, systems and structures throughout the body. Ether, air, fire, water and earth are deeply connected to our emotions and passions. This work is intended to bring all the elements into balance and harmony through conscious, oriented touch applied to various corresponding points on element pathways along the body.
Polarity therapy is very helpful for a variety of issues such as headaches or migraines, sinus issues, anxiety, depression, insomnia, arthritis, fibromyalgia, gastrointestinal issues, auto-immune disorders and more. Freeing up energy blocks can also assist in realigning structures in our body. When our structure is aligned, our nervous system sends the right signals to the body to activate the immune system, kidney and adrenal function. Sometimes our body is sending us signals to simply rest, eat, don't eat, do this, do that etc. When we ignore those simple signals, it puts our body under a great deal of stress. It is empowering and can help people reach their individual goals for improving or maintaining one's health.
What is a session like?
In a session you are fully clothed, so light, comfortable clothing is recommended for your comfort. The beginning of a session will consist of conversation about your wellness and goals and intentions. Once you lay on the table, the practitioner will begin at the head activating your parasympathetic nervous system to trigger the body's relaxation response. The bodywork that is performed is a combination of releasing tension with gentle rocking or deep pressure, reflexology, some craniosacral therapy, breath work and the use of crystals to assist in energy system clearing and to lock in the intended work done. While you are on the table and your body begins to relax, the breath will change and you may feel an array of sensations such as heat or cold, spontaneous movement and the surfacing of memories stored in our cells may release emotional energy blocks by an outburst of tears or laughter. Your space is safe to release those blocks and allow the healing to take place. At the end of the session, quartz crystals are placed over the endocrine glands to activate the glandular system, which is associated with a specific chakra. Drink plenty of water after your session.
Diet and Nutrition:
Diet and nutrition are a huge factor in your well being. What we put into our body not only effects our digestive system, but our thoughts and emotions are influenced by our diet. When we eat food like fruits and vegetables (particularly raw) we feel good, think more clearly and our energy levels increase. Eating foods that are high in fats and sugars can create feelings of regret and guilt which then creates a negative cycle. By simply just being aware of your diet is already the first step in making that change.
Polarity Yoga:
The exercises are simple and effective ways to create balance and harmony in the body. Each exercise helps open up various elements in the body system. Some of the exercises help release congested energy or tension, while others are soothing and relaxing or can increase levels of vitality. Most of the exercises involve making sound with breath. Sound can help break up and release energy down to a cellular level. Think of your favorite song. It might give you chills, bring tears of joy or uplift you. That is the power of sound moving energy through your body. These exercises are simple enough that they can be done almost anywhere, anytime. Breath, movement and sound help get things moving in your body creating more space for creativity and harmony.
